Inventory Mix-Up

Landon struggles to cover his overhead, pay his two employees, and have any profit left for him in his new business. A shipment arrived from one of his suppliers. As he opened the boxes, he realized the order was doubled. Yet, the invoice only listed the original amount ordered. Landon considered it good fortune and calculated selling the extras at pure profit.

It wasn’t long before he realized he couldn’t do it. He would want someone to tell him if he had made such a mistake. He called the supplier, who at first didn’t understand. The supplier thought he meant he had not received his full order. Finally it was clear. The supplier told him to keep the extras and an invoice would be sent next month. Landon was surprised to find a fifty percent discount.

People notice when you demonstrate integrity in your business practices; you don’t have to say a word. The best advertisement any business can receive is word of mouth. Nevertheless, the opposite is also true- one negative experience will be told many times over. God’s blessing will not be present when there is dishonesty. He requires man to strive to live by his standards of honest scales and balances. These standards will honor God and demonstrate his love to others.

TRY THIS: As an employee, treat your employer with honesty. Do not take office supplies or equipment from work for personal use unless you pay for them- this includes pencils and paper clips. Employee discounts are not included for friends. Use integrity in all your business dealings- God knows your heart.
